Well, the month of April is over, and the stats are all tallied up. Spirit clocked 152 miles in April. Amazing how all those miles add up. First week of May - we hit 48.2 miles. For the most part, we've been focusing on shorter distances around 10 miles (with a longer ride about once a week) and speeds around 6-7 mph. However, on Friday night Troy showed up...in the mood for some speed and tacked up Wind. Oh Baby did we have some fun. We did the 5 mile run, right from the barn door to the end of Lelands Road and back to the barn at an average miles per hour of 12.6!! If you look at the stats for the section we rode only on Leland's Road (not including our driveway, they highway etc, about 4.5 miles), we actually rode13.6 mph! I love a good run like that every once in a while and so does Spirit.
Today we trailered to Stanley as the team helps Tammy prepare for her first LD. We rode 15 miles at a very respectable 6.7 mph (good job Tammy!). Then we came back, and saddled up Paris and Aziim. Out we went - we've still only got a couple of trail walks under our belts on these guys, so I had full equestrian "hockey gear" on...full seat chaps, safety vest and my industrial-strength helmet. It was only 3.5 miles but I think I burned more energy ...just trying to relax...than the whole 15 miles earlier! Paris was actually really good...it was just me...not knowing what to expect next. It's like I've earned the "privilege" of feeling like a new rider all over again (groan).
