Kathleen and Caddy-a little BUMp

Well tonight I watched Kathleen limp down the driveway with Caddy in hand, and Gary at her side. She had gone to the barn tonight to work more with Caddy, as she has been faithfully doing-and everything had been going so well. You know last night she went up and did nearly 2 hours in the rain(pouring at times) with Caddy, and although she was soaked at the end, she was smiling! Tonight though, Caddy spooked in the driveway and although I have watched Kathleen sit some big bucks -tonight's spook caused her to fall off.

It is so hard to know what to do in a situation like this being the concerned Mom-I knew she was hurting, she was scared, and I hate to see her cry. I was so thankful that Lynn and Gary were there-she got back on Caddy (even though I knew she didn't want to-and I also knew I would not have been able to convince her to do it), and with Lynn guiding them through, she and Caddy went right back up that driveway to the place she spooked, and they worked through it successfully. After, they went down to the outside arena, and did another mile.

I have watched these two on this journey they are on-and they have had good days, and there have been bumps in the road too-but the change I see in Kathleen is just wonderful to watch. She is really stepping up to the plate, and she is taking control. She has come so far, and watching her tonight get back in that saddle, and finish on a positive note-even though her butt was killing her-it made me feel so proud of her. Caddy does challenge her on many days, but she is determined, and she is learning so much.

Good job tonight Kathleen-you have come so far, and you are doing such a wonderful job-you just keep up the great work you are doing-there are great things ahead for you!

Paris' Perspective (6)

Today Lynn showered me with a light spray of water from the hose.  This is twice now I have let her do it to me.  I hope she doesn't think that just because I let her do it today, that I will let her do it tomorrow.  We all know I am not a fan of water. I was just hot and it felt good.

Getting Ready For McDonald's Run!

Preparations are starting for our next competition - McDonald's Run - coming up next weekend!

Poor Troy.... a lot of real estate  to shave.  Wind needs to be shaved....every bit of extra heat you can get rid of when you are preparing a Clydesdale  for a CTR helps!  Wind is worn out from this experience, as you can see.

Bath time Spirit....not his favorite thing.

He looks as impressed over the whole thing as Wind looked about being shaved.

Now, he's all clean and shiny...beautiful boy....but WAIT.......

He says we have to talk about the latest hair style!

Working with Caddy

Wow, me and caddy have hit some kind of growth spurt or something, I think we have  both took a turn for the best after Troys boot camp, with riding her and then putting her away and then riding her and putting her away, and being consistent, that is what she needs, and i have been very consistent with her. before i couldn't even walk her up the driveway, now we are cantering up it, let alone going around the property. I used to look at caddy and be scared, not only of her, but of the new responsibility i have, and all the hard work for both of us. But now i look at her with excitement, i can go out and just ride without any real fight, all those things have payed off.
Caddy and Me going under a tree :)

I thought this was a good place for a picture

Heading back to the barn after our ride
I <3 her!

Kathleen and Caddy-A Night out on their own

It was such a beautiful evening tonight, and Kathleen and I thought we would head to the barn. Caddy had lost a shoe last week, and so Kathleen wasn't able to do much with her, but today Leon came and got her all fixed up so we thought we would go and take advantage of this beautiful night.

We were surprised to find the barn quiet on a Friday evening, not even Dozer was around. Kathleen got Caddy out and worked inside with her for a bit-usually after having a few days off Caddy has a bit of attitude when she is expected to do something again-but not tonight! She was just wonderful with Kathleen.

After some ground work inside, Kathleen decided to take her for some runs up and down the driveway. They looked just great together. Things were going so well, that Kathleen decided to go around the property-and off they went on this beautiful night, just a girl and her horse-surrounded by the silence and beauty of the night. It did my heart good to sit in the peacefullness of the evening and watch them go off together-alone.

Paris' Perspective (5)

Last night Lynn rode me in the outdoor riding arena.  All of a sudden I was walking along and happened to look at my shadow....ohhhh ohhh it was weird looking....it was much bigger than normal and there was a big bump on my back.  I looked at it every time we went down the sunny side of the area trying to figure out what happened to my "normal" shadow.  Lynn thought it was very funny.  I thought it was simply weird.

One of our readers joins us for a ride!

Janet has been reading your blog stories faithfully and begging for the chance to "to come and play" with us. Last week she did just that and we all had a great ride.

We all had a good ride and challenged Janet to get her trotting muscles ready for the next time!

My Butt

Today I was riding Mister and I was bareback and I was just going to
walk but when we started to walk he just started galloping! He whipped
around the turn and I came off, my butt hit first and then my head then I
rolled. Willow was in the pasture beside me and stayed with me the whole time
I was on the ground. Then she walked beside me when I went to get mister who ran
all the way to Phil's yard, next door to the other pasture. I led Mister back and put him in a stall until Leon came. The adults thought Mister looked sorry but I think he was just tired. Mama and Leon think maybe Mister got stung or maybe touched the fence. The same thing happened to them on their ponies who never took off either.
I am Ok now.

Dad and the shore birds came for a visit

The birds are a type of sandpiper and visit our shoreline each summer by the thousands. Hopefully we can get some up close pictures while they are here. They are amazing.

Riding Aziim

Last night I went to get Aziim. I walked a ways into the pasture calling him and when he finally looked up I called "whoever gets here first can come & play!". Lucky for me Aziim came up before Khol!
Aziim was a tiny bit "up": windy, festival Open Mic, no reason in particular, who knows?! But, man, he comes down quickly. In the cross ties for the groom & saddle and the attempts to bridle. Tried three times and could NOT get that thing over his ears this time. Shrugged and went to the outdoor anyway.
Attached the reins to the his halter and climbed on. Lynn is working with Spirit on the rail and I am probably pretty obviously a bit frazzled but he's fine. I ride him inside, just walking until I feel Ok. Can NOT get a left turn out of him. Well, if I lean forward and slide my hand inches from the halter, I can. I don't love that, so I eventually manage to convince him that it's not a request - he doesn't argue, just says "well, alright then".
So I've got him going and stopping and standing still at the walk and some short trots. All is well, I'm starting to relax. He's been relaxed for most of the time.We move out on the rail. Concentrating on "looooong legs" and loose rein and balance and enjoying watching him watch EVERYthing. One "shy" of his was four-legs-out and SINK. and look. and then move on. Another was: glue ears in direction of that big black music box while you walk out & by. That took a few more "stop & look"s and "get going, Aziim"s before he walked straight by. A couple more, maybe, little "shy"s - not really spooks - I may be getting used to them. What a good boy!
Lynn is doing some very cool things with Spirit which was fun to watch, probably for both Aziim as well as me. My favourites were the canter, stop and watching them canter the rail with no hands, hands out, hand above head. Reminded me of Marie on Ginger and Mister. I want to get there too!
Lianne came in with Summer and they looked to have fun as well. Aziim was very interested in Summer but again, he went back to work/play very quickly. Summer is a very shameless flirt, so he can't be blamed for his interest.
Because Aziim didn't love that black music box, we carted it back to the barn with us. Box rolling on the ground on my left and Aziim on my right. He did NOT think that was a good idea at first but he was really very awesome about it, nothing major. Good boy, Aziim!

Hayin Time

Soo many haying sub-stories this year that I don't know where to begin so thought we'd start with an overview.....

Soo as You can see the Tidal Treasures exercise program continues to thrive!

A Tidal Treasures Visit

My cousin, Erica, and her family are here visiting from Ottawa. They came to the barn for a visit to see where we spend soooo much of our time. While there, Lynn kindly offered for us to get Spirit out, and let the kids brush him, and then have a little ride around the outdoor arena. Spirit was as usual, his kind and gentle self for the kids who are 4 and 2, and have never been around horses before. Here is a little peek at their visit...

This is Laila-2 years old, brushing Spirit. The stool just wasn't high enough, so Steve, her Dad gives her a lift up.

Jahleel- 4 years old, has his turn brushing while Mom -Erica, and his sister watch.

Big brother has the first ride on Spirit. Kathleen led them around.

Spirit gave Jahleel a wonderful ride-and Jahleel was a real little cowboy up there!

Little Laila was so excited for her turn, that she grabbed Todd's adult sized helmet and put it on all by herself so she would be all ready to go. It was just adorable!

"Ok I'm ready to go now!"

Another happy little one!

Spirit was so wonderful with the kids, that Steve decided he would go around for a turn too!

Tidal Treasures gives yet another family some cherished memories to leave with.

But wait! Before they leave, Ginger returns from a beach ride, and the kids get a turn on her as well!

Laila absolutely loved Ginger, and she kept rubbing her gently. And of course, Ginger was awesome with them both too!

It was so nice to have them come for a visit, and share in the Tidal Treasure experience!
