Cantering

What was I waiting for??? How many times do we ask ourselves that question when we manage to accomplish something that had scared us too much to do before? Man alive that heat, for me anyway and I'm sure a lot of others, was just about unbearable yesterday, but I took that handsome boy out anyway for some time in the outdoor arena. Its a good workout for both of us in the heat to get us better prepared for competition days. We did 40 laps (20 each way) at mostly a trot. My goals were to keep him on the rail and just keep going. Near the end, he went into a canter and off we went down one long end and around the corner for a short end and then back down into a trot. I think he was showing off for Lynn and Troy who had just recently pulled up a chair to watch our session. I remember thinking before how the thought of that canter starting out would terrify me and I would instantly do what I could to get out of the situation and then all of a sudden, after one breakthrough on Leland's Road, there we were cantering in the outdoor arena. I love my horse!!!
