ENDURANCE in 7 days! PROFILES OF OUR ENDURANCE RIDERS

So far I believe there are 8 of usplanning to ride the 50 MILE ENDURANCE RIDE! There is Lucy Rudge, Betty Dwyer, Deanna Johnson, Jim Burns, Susan Hovey, Chester Gielan, Catherine (Rusty) Johnson, and me Lynn Beazley. Imgard Lipp is riding in the 30 or the 50. Last time I was talking to her, she wasn't sure. And there are a few others that are coming but i am not sure if they are doing the 50 There are also at least four people planning on riding the 30 .... Russlyn Patriquin-Dyke, April Haliburton, Rene Mesereau, and Pearl Skjonsberg.

I would like to profile 1 or 2 of the endurance riders each day as the time approaches. (having some computer issues). I've designed a couple of quick questions and have managed to catch Betty and Lucy on the phone ....if you are reading this, and you plan on riding in the 50, I hope to be calling you with the same questions. So far it has been fun asking these questions. I hope you enjoy these little profiles....

BETTY DWYER and HOOLEY
How many years have you been doing limited distance rides?
Six years. (late bloomer!). Betty also spent part of last winter in Goethe Florida, distance riding with a community of distance riders who train there in the winter!

How many endurance rides have you ridden in?
"I have ridden in two other 50 mile endurance rides, both hosted in the States"

Tell us about Hooley's background
He is an Arab, purchased from Sarah Ells in Cambridge NS when he was 7 years old. He is 14 now.

What are you're favorite moments of distance riding?
"Every ride that I enter and complete is a thrill.". Betty is especially passionate. About the two 50s she has raced. In her first, there was a galloping head-to-head finish with another competitor. She placed 12th in that race. The 2nd race she rode, she was in the top ten. These are major accomplishments when you look at the size of the races held in the states.

Tell us what you love about HOOLEY.
"I love his personality; his free spirit. He is not a "cuddly" horse. He is very independent but when we get together, we become a team. I just have to think something and HOOLEY does it. I love that part."

Thanks Betty for providing us with a quick snapshot of your riding and your horse. Best of luck on Saturday!

LUCY RUDGE and CARUSO
How many years have you been doing limited distance rides?
"A long time! Probably since some time on the 80s"

How many endurance rides have you ridden in?
One other ride. It was a 50 at the Amigos ride in NB.

Tell us about Caruso.
He is a Morab He came from Christie Riddell. (Christie Riddell breeds horses in Rawdon NS and is well known in the ACTRA community). His sire is Sam (Nerzan). A well known endurance horse in his day. He is 11.

What have been you favorite moments in distance riding?
Riding Caruso at the canter with my hands flung in the air, last spring during our Mud Run, and riding Caruso through the busy town of Hunter River in our PEI ride this past summer. Riding the 50 on Gus, an Arabian race horse also stands out, as does the completing the 100 mile, three day CTR event on Benji. Honestly every ride is a thrill."

Tell us what you love about Caruso
"His toughness. He handles anything I throw at him. " This is a horse built to last. I'm not getting any younger and this is the horse that will carry me through my retirement years like a pro.

Thanks Lucy for providing us with a quick snapshot of your ridingand your horse. Good luck on Satursay October 20th!!
